On Tuesday 24th November 2015, our school was visited by
members of our Defence Forces. A guard of honour welcomed them into our school.
Students were presented with our National Flag and a copy of The Irish
Proclamation. A section of the proclamation was read by students after which
the Soldiers were treated to our National Anthem played by students on
traditional tin whistles. The students were given opportunities to ask
questions about our defence forces and the soldiers explained the medals they
were awarded. The entire school then stood and gave a very patriotic rendition
of our National Anthem as junior infants waved Irish flags which they had made
earlier.
On March 15th 2016, to celebrate the 1916 rising, primary schools nationwide will simultaneously raise the National Flag.
